Johnson Center Food Court Renovation

Posted: March 17, 2017 at 11:51 am

The west side of the Johnson Center Atrium will be renovated in order to provide new and additional dining options. The construction began March 11 and is expected to finish by August 17.

These renovations will provide a new store front layout and some new restaurants: Chipotle, Garbanzo, Steak N’ Shake, and Blaze Pizza. Star Ginger will remain in the Johnson Center Atrium and Red Hot & Blue and Indaroma will move across from Starbucks on the ground floor of the Johnson Center over Spring Break. During the construction project, Panera, Express, Starbucks, and Freshens will remain open.

It’s official, Mason will have a Chipotle, becoming the 2nd university to do so. Chipotle will replace Jorge’s in its current location, which closed on March 11.

When all renovations are complete, the aisle along the west side interior of the Johnson Center will be widened to match the width of the east side. During the same time frame, there will also be an outdoor patio constructed along the west side of the Johnson Center to accommodate outdoor eating and socializing once the dining locations reopen in Fall 2017.

During construction, food trucks will be onsite to compensate for the closed restaurants. The Hungry Patriot and Steak N’ Shake trucks will be open for lunch and dinner with a break in between. Located in Patriot Circle, next to the George Mason statue, they will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays. Food trucks will accept Mason Money, Freedom, Bonus Funds, cash, and credit/debit cards.

Auntie Annes, currently in the Johnson Center will close and reopen Fall/Winter 2017 across the Atrium on the east side.

Dunkin Donuts will open in Tidewater Hall after Spring Break! Its expected operation date is April 1. Their hours will 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekends.
