The University Libraries announces the start of the building expansion of Fenwick Library on the Fairfax campus. The addition will provide 150,000 square feet of new space for the largest library in the Mason Libraries system. The library addition has been and continues to be a Mason community driven and centered process.

The two town hall meetings will be on the Fairfax Campus, in the Johnson Center, Cinema on Wednesday, October 17 at 2:00 pm and on Monday, October 22 at 9:00 am. Staff from the Libraries and Facilities Administration will share more detailed information about the building addition and the construction phases as well as address any concerns that students, faculty and staff may have.

I heard that the woods between Robinson A, Fenwick, and Chesapeake are going to be destroyed for the library expansion. Is this true? Or is the library only expanding into the grassy space on the back and left side (facing the front)?

Hello Victoria,

Thank you for the question. The grassy area behind the library will be used for a new building that will be multipurpose with residence hall rooms, classrooms and other uses. Facilities has been working to preserve our campuses’ trees in their new construction planning, including the Fenwick Library expansion. At this time in the planning phase, it has not been determined how the woods will be affected.
