A look at the future Univ. Data Center

Posted: March 6, 2009 at 3:51 pm, Last Updated: March 17, 2009 at 2:12 pm

A 50,000 square foot building will be built on the Fairfax Campus – where the greenhouse used to be – for use as swing space. Half of the building will be used as temporary relocation space for occupants of other buildings scheduled for renovation. The other half will be constructed as the permanent location for the University Data Center. The project schedule is closely connected to renovation schedules of West Hall (completed in fall ’07) and Thompson Hall (scheduled for Jan. ’10 through May ’11).

Wasn’t West rennovated a few years ago? When will the current rennovations be complete? Is the swing space going to be built after rennovations of Both West and Thompson or just West?

That was my mistake, and thank you for bringing it to my attention. It’s not West Hall, but rather Thompson Hall that will be renovated next year. You are right – the renovations to West were completed back in the fall of ’07.

With the completion of West’s renovations, workers could focus on the development of the Data Center, which should be completed by January 2010. At that point, occupants of Thompson will relocate to the new “swing space.” Completion of Thompson renovation phase 1 (the large wing of Thompson) will be completed in spring 2011.

Please make sure our data center is efficient/green enough in the future. Will you announce the data center efficiency calculation, in some standard form (eg, the one from 42u.com: http://www.42u.com/efficiency/energy-efficiency-calculator.htm, or just google “data center efficiency calculator”)

It is very handy to get a little extra knowledge when renovating (or dreaming about it). If you are looking for a few top notch tips, I also highly recommend checking Masterrenovator.com, he has great info for things that can help a lot.

Hi mate, I saw you run a couple of ads on your site.
I’m actually making some extra money from my website using a wordpress ad plugin.
I would send you the link but don’t wanna get flagged as spam here, so just do a quick search on Google for ‘oiopublisher’ and go ahead with the first result.
They have a demo site so you can give it a free test run, but believe me: You’ll love it and it’ll make you some extra cash selling advertising directly from your wordpress blog – keep 100% of the revenue and control who advertises!
If you decide to buy, enter discount code ‘SOLAR-X’ to get it 10 bugs cheaper – my little gift to you for hosting this great blog!
Keep up the good work, Dwayne Bengtson
