Traffic Alert: Thursday, October 10

Posted: October 4, 2013 at 3:45 pm

Event Traffic
Thursday, October 10, expect heavy traffic on and off campus for the Selena Gomez concert at the Patriot Center. The concert begins at 7:00 pm with doors opening at 6:00 pm. Traffic and parking will be busiest between 5:00 – 7:00pm.

As with any weeknight Patriot Center event, it is highly recommended to utilize alternative transportation. If you must drive, avoid Braddock Road approaching campus and use alternate routes and entrances to campus, including University Drive and Roberts Road.

Parking
With respect to parking options, it is best for those not attending the concert to park on the north end of campus in Rappahannock River Parking Deck and Lot H (which is open to General student permits from 5:00 – 11:00pm). Overnight restrictions in the General parking area of Rappahannock River Parking Deck will be waived Thursday night/Friday morning.

After 5pm, the upper levels of the Shenandoah Parking Deck permit area will be opened to General permit and event parking overflow – everyone must be out by 12:00am (midnight). The roof of Rappahannock River Parking Deck and the reserved permit area of Mason Pond Deck may be opened, depending on need.

Parking, Police, and Patriot Center staff will be directing traffic on roadways and in parking areas. Follow their directions to save time and for your safety.

Transportation
With the increase in traffic, also expect delays on Mason Shuttles routes. Allow plenty of extra time coming to campus whether you drive or take a bus. Consider carpooling – find or share a ride at zimride.gmu.edu.
