Football at Mason?

An increasing number of students are expressing their enthusiasm via blogs and Facebook for the idea of an NCAA football team at Mason. The idea has been spurned by university officials for decades, but this campus is no stranger to change. I don’t know about you, but the empty Mason property line west of Route 123 that stretches all the way out to Shirley Gate Rd is begging for development – something the size and shape of, oh I don’t know, a football stadium…. What do you think?

Hi everyone,

Well my name is Ismail and its going to be my senior year in highschool this September and I was getting emails from a buch of colleges and I got one from this one George Mason University. I noticed they do not have a football program but heard some rumors that they are thinking about starting one up. My question to anyone is: Is there going to be a football program starting up any time soon?

Hello Ismail,
Thank you for your question! Currently, George Mason has a Club Football team and does not have a NCAA Football program. With a new president starting this year, he has been asked the question about starting a football team, but we’ll just have to wait and see what happens. Please let me know if you have additional questions or feel free to call the University Switchboard at 703-993-1000.
